Horse Riding Miracles

Horse-Riding Miracles

By Christine Katlyn-Caraline Wang

Chapter 1

"You are late!"

"I'm sorry. I had early piano practice in the morning and things went…"

"Not interested in what else you do. There is a competition on Saturday and if you are late to every single class, I might as well call your parents!"

Angie can't believe it. She just cannot believe it. Her horse-riding lesson starts at nine. And today's piano lesson started at eight in the morning and Ms. Harrington, the age 11-13 years old teaching horse-riding teacher is yelling at her every morning. Ok, at least she tried to tell her about how important my piano exam is and how she needed to take lessons morning at night. "Go get Caspar!" growled Ms. Harrington madly as she watched this riding pro girl called Stevie Halter jump to combo fences. She is amazing at riding. Her parents are wealthy and rich so she gets private lessons and all that. Caspar is Angie's horse Angie boarded to Willow Halls Riding School. She owned Caspar ever since he was a pony. Now, it's at the stables. A few snobby girls smirked as Angie turned away to the stable. "Next! Oh, since Angie wasn't ready on time, Wendy, you'll have to take her turn on the combo and dressage." She heard Ms. Harrington say.

It wasn't fair, thought Angie as she opened Caspar's barn door. Stevie and Wendy are always on time! And they brag and brag about everything infront of my face! She kept thinking that furiously as she tacked Caspar up. Caspar snorted as if to say that he was ready for the combo jumps. "Mm, Caspar. We were late, that's all. And the combo jump morning lesson has finished. It's snack time now, but I'm going to the combo area and we're going to show how good we are to Ms. Harrington!" said Angie solemnly. She had been so late; it was almost like she forgot to brush her blonde hair. Though her blonde hair was tied up into pigtails with green ribbons. She placed on the saddle and pushed up on Caspar. Then, she mounted out of the barn. As she mounted, Wendy and Stevie and another snobby girl called Elliarna were walking behind her saying, "I know! I can't believe Ms. Harrington thought we were the best at everything!" Stevie was saying, in a voice she'd hoped Angie would hear. "And I heard her talking to Max about we were the top ones in combo dressage's and did you know I heard them say Angie was the lowest because she was so low and late?" Wendy breathed. Angie ignored them and mounted Caspar on. It was hard to ignore them because their voices were loud. Soon, when she got out, the girls weren't behind her though she could hear them mumbling away, voices fading. As she got to the combo area, she whispered to Caspar, "C'mon, Caspar. We'll need to practice. For us, and the competition on Saturday," then, she thumped on the reins and off they went. Caspar was cantering steadily and perfectly. When a fence appeared infront of them, Angie was worried. She had jumped only little fences before she enrolled Ms. Harrington's class, but that was when she was nine. Now, it was a very big one. Angie waited for the moment to happen when… NEIGH! Angie went flying off the saddle onto the stiff, hard ground.

Chapter 2

"Angie, can you hear me? Angie?" Dr. Jane's stern voice was shattering. Angie slowly opened her eyes, avoiding the pain on her shoulders and back. She looked up. The snobby girls were standing in distance, laughing about Angie's 'Stupid fall'. And there was Ms. Harrington not looking happy. Ms. Harrington was clutching onto Caspar's reins and looking straight at Angie on the ground. "Are you OK?" asked Dr. Jane. "Yes, I'm fine. What about Caspar?" asked Angie, slowly getting up. "He's good and well. In tip-top shape." Said Dr. Jane, placing a bandage on for Angie's bleeding elbow.

"Were you mad?" hissed Ms. Harrington. Angie was at the office, taking consequences for the accident. Obviously, the snobby girls were all outside the window, giggling. "I wanted to practice my jumping so when I come early on Tuesday I can improve." She exclaimed quietly, rubbing her arm. She still was in her riding outfit and hadn't changed since. "Well, that was a silly thing to do, without guidance from another adult or teacher," Ms. Harrington snarled. Then, she told Angie she should be more like Stevie and Wendy, always doing the right thing. Angie had nothing to say to that. She was over. Her chance of coming to this riding school was over. "And, next classes is on Monday at four twenty; not Tuesday, Angie." Finished off Ms. Harrington. Angie gulped. It has been school holidays for a month or two but her dancing school classes were on a MONDAY! Instead of telling Ms. Harrington that, Angie nodded and walked outside the office.

"Ha-ha. Who's got in trouble from Harrington?" snarled nastily Stevie. "Yeah who?" cried another girl pulling a beautiful black bay horse. Angie thought that girl was teasing but instead, the girl came infront of Angie and said to Stevie, "Oh, so you haven't got in trouble, huh? Then, why do you care about her? It's none of your business, excuse me." Angie was shocked. No one in this riding school stood out to her like that. Stevie sneered one more time and walked away to join Wendy and Elliarna to the counter room. "Don't worry about them," the girl smiled kindly at Angie. "Stevie and Wendy are always bullies, anyway. I'm June. June Kelly," said the girl. Angie smiled shyly back. "I'm Angie. Angie Webster. Who's that horse you're pulling? Well he's very beautiful,"

"Actually it's a she. Her name is Ginny. My parents boarded her. She is beautiful, but she does get hot-headed and temperamental and she bucks you off. I like that horse called Caspar better-you know that strawberry roan at the middle stall?" she June as she pulled Ginny off. Angie walked with them. "Caspar? Oh, that's my horse. I also boarded him and got him since he was a pony. D'you wanna see him?" asked Angie, grinning. The two girls walked on, with Ginny to Caspar's stall. First, June gave Holly, her riding teacher Ginny and walked off with Angie. When they arrived at Caspar's stall, June gaped. "What a beauty! He must've been worth a thousand pounds, right?" she asked with a surprised expression. Angie laughed and said, "No. Just a few hundreds." She thought that this day was getting better. Her first ever best friend in Willow Halls riding School ever. She wished the snack time will never end, but it did. The bell went and it was time to go to the next lesson: dressage. The two girls gave eachother's phone numbers and emails before they took off in separate ways.

As she mounted Caspar to the dressage area, Ms. Harrington arrived with a clip-board and pen. The other riders were there as well. "Thank goodness you didn't come late, Angie. I will be testing your exams today." That gave Angie a complete shock. "Today's exam? What?" cried Angie, adjusting her helmet. Exam?! She hadn't been ready or practicing these days. Ms. Harrington curved her lips up and yelled, "OK, Angie Webster! I'm going have to speak to your parents this afternoon when you leave-no excuses!" Angie gulped. "But-"

"No buts! Think about it; being late, being lazy, being sloppy, doing silly things, not getting on to the timetables! Seriously, Angie, should I add more?" yelled Ms. Harrington. No one dared to say a word. Not even the snobby girls. Angie could feel Caspar getting nervous and stiff and that was not good for dressage's. Angie shook her head. Tears were swimming up to her eyes. Her eyes were getting so blurry and watery, if she did anything, she was going to cry. In the awkward silence, Angie knew what to do was best; she nodded and mounted Caspar back to the barn and into the paddock. The paddock was a good place to cry because now, no one is in the paddock except for a few foals and horses. When she went pass a tree with no horse (Caspar was feeding on grass.), she being to sob. Why did she even bother coming here when there's a lot on her mind these days? Why? She had no idea except for being a stupid, dummy sobbing.

Chapter Three

"Angie, love, Ms. Harrington spoke to us this afternoon about your lessons. Your mum and I have thought about it," it was a warm night and Angie was in her PJ's, grabbing a glass of juice from the fridge as she heard her parents talking. "Look, as we said, your teacher has spoken to us. You need to catch up, so we are wanting you to choose either dancing, piano, guitar, swimming or singing lessons to take out." Her mum said, flipping the pancakes over in the pan. Angie froze. "What?! That's insane! I'm not taking any of those out unless it's tutoring," exclaimed Angie. "No! Your math and science is getting crabby and we need you to keep tutoring, Ange." Said her dad. "We know that you want to keep horse-riding so that's why it's not an option, love." Said her mum. Angie sighed and sat on a chair near the dining table, putting the juice down. Her dad came over and gave her five papers. Each are the bills of the five options Angie has to take out. She looked at them thoroughly. "Well, I don't want to take out piano and guitar and swimming. So I guess it just leaves it to singing and dancing; right?" said Angie. Her dad nodded, strictly looking at the bills of each. Swimming was obviously the cheapest. Then, her mum butted in, "You can withdraw two, you know. Our money is getting less and less by week." Angie said, "You said I can take out one sport only. So, I don't want to do dancing anymore. So, when the concert is over, we will quit," Angie finally said. Her mum nodded gaily. "And I quit guitar lessons. Dan can teach me without bills." Continued Angie. Her mum nodded again. "Then, it's settled. Dan can teach you every Wednesday night,"

That's it, Angie thought. I can finally leave some time for my horse-riding. That night, she called June and told her the news. June was impressed. "That's good, Ange. Are you coming to the stables tomorrow?" she asked. "Of course! Since I don't do dancing, I will have to go!" insisted Angie.

The End
