Chapter 1
"Willow Halls Riding School please come in order!" Jedi the beginner teacher called over the loud-speaker. Angie was in the lounge with her best friend June. When they heard the announcement, they scattered to the meeting area. "I wonder what's up?" whispered June excitedly in Angie's ear. When they arrived in the meeting place. Jedi was in the middle of talking to the students when June and Angie came. She stopped and frowned at them. "You both are late and I am not taking any excuses. Please join the line but I'm not going to repeat myself so you'll have to hear it from someone else!" Jedi growled. Wendy and the rest of the snobby girls snickered meanly. Angie sighed. When will they just give it up? She kept thinking. The snobby girls always teased her. "And the questions will be frequently asked by your dressage teacher, I'm so. But you must learn them so the staff know you'll be ready for the next skill for next year!" continued Jedi. "Oh-o. My sister told me about the mid-term tests. We do the questions in a room then teachers mark it. Then, we have lessons for the rest of the term then in Term 4, there'll be no more lessons, of course. They'll be just riding depending if you have passed the test or not…" June whispered quietly in Angie's ear. Stevie, a girl from the snobby people, was angry that Jedi didn't tell them off. Well, boy was Angie glad! But after the announcement, Angie felt sudden fear go up her. She hadn't accepted a mid-year test. And June had told her that her sister didn't pass so June's sister, Jamie had to keep having lessons in Term 4! I have to pass, Angie pleaded. The test was in two weeks' time and Angie hadn't studied once! Angie strolled to the stable. She remembered she had formal jumping lessons in five minutes. So, she quickly ran to Caspar's stall, tripping over a bucket, still full-on nervous about the exam test. Angie opened her eyes. She had tripped over a bucket. And, she had her back flat on the ground, blonde hair in hay.
"Hello, Angie! Are you alright? Angie!"
Angie slowly looked up, feeling like a total stupid. It was June and the stable handler, Rex. Rex was holding Caspar in the reins. June was holding his tack. "Get up, Ange. You know what Ms. Harrington is like! You're late twenty two minutes!" exclaimed Rex and June together. Angie gasped and got up like a rocket. "Oh no! She's probably testing the questions for the mid-year test! Gimmie Caspar quickly. And his tack. I can't believe I'm this late!!" she snatched the tack and the reins without reply and hurried to get her helmet. Now there was something to worry about! When she quickly mounted Caspar to the riding arena. Ms. Harrington was in the middle of asking Stevie a question. "What are the three kinds of breed of common known horses around the…"
Chapter 2
"I'm so sorry that I'm late, Ms.!" Cried Angie riding in line next to Sammy with Goldie. Ms. Harrington looked cranky when she saw Angie mounting Caspar in line. "Rex told me what happened indoors. How can you be so foolish? You know it is not safe to run in the stables around horses. And I have gone through half the questions already. Poor Wendy and Stevie had to take your questions!" Ms. Harrington snapped. Angie flinched on her saddle. "Now, since you've come late, Angie. Answer this question: When a baby foal has just been born, what kind of milk do we feed him or her?" continued Ms. Harrington with a strong tone. Angie's stomach flipped. What was she going to say? Again, Ms. Harrington asked the question with a cold voice. "Um, foal milk? Special milk? Horse milk? Nursing milk? Cattle milk? Tea milk?" Angie said hopefully praying she will have the question right. The snobby girls and Sammy who was next to her giggled silently. Angie blushed shamefully. But Ms. Harrington wasn't impressed at all. "Angie Webster- the test is in two weeks. You better study or else-it's lessons almost every day! Dismissed!" hissed Ms. Harrington. Angie heard the snobby girls snickering and teasing behind her. "Yeah-she's totally dumb-I know! Ha-ha! Look at her silly horse, Dumbspa! Dumb just like HER!" they all were saying. But Angie had enough. She clutched tight to Caspar's reins, turned him around and said to the snobs, "You know what? I'm tired of you. All of you. So, if you think that Caspar and I are so dumb-well, we'll make a bet because I'm sick and tired of you. If you think you're the best; prove it; a race I'm holding on Tuesday afternoon, four o' clock. If I win, that means I have proven myself that I'm not what you think. What's your bet?" said Angie loudly so everyone could hear. Sammy and others turned around with their horses, heel first. Wendy laughed. Stevie and Elliarna giggled. "Well, I know that you're not good at… The mid-year test! Whoever gets a higher grade than another wins! And since you are making 2 pathetic bets…" said Wendy, still on her horse. Angie got off her horse and tied Caspar on a fence. She knew what Wendy was doing-wanting her to lose by betting on her least fave subject. "We'll calculate the marks!" cried another voice from distance. Angie froze. Wendy froze. The snobs froze. There, was June, on Ginny for her next lesson. Oh, thanks a lot, June, Angie thought. Now you've made it worse.
Chapter 3
That night Angie's parents said that if Angie didn't pass, she would have to move from Willow Halls to another riding school! Angie was shocked. Tomorrow was school and she hadn't even finished one bit of her homework. Angie trotted upstairs in depression. Her mum told her to finish her homework. Instead, Angie wrote a list when she got in her room. It was enough reasons why she had to pass the test:
- The snobby girls will stop teasing me about lessons.
- My parents won't make me move.
- My parents won't be disappointed.
- Then, I won't get classes in Term 4
- Ms. Harrington won't go all rough on me.
Causes: Study and study horse questions enough to make me pass. Ask a friend or adult to test me every night.
Angie had no time to lose. She got out her homework note-books and began to do very easy math sums in a hurry. Then, she opened her laptop and searched on the internet about the questions. She had to pass! Five of the things can do a lot!
The time was here. The mid-year tests. It was a lovely November 5th, but Angie felt like lurching. Yesterday, Angie had won the race because Wendy had fallen of Dandy and now blaming Angie about the fall. Angie didn't care one bit. All she cared was about the mid-term test. Everyone was in the stable, not allowing going in the arena because the examiners, John Smith and Fiona were sorting papers out. "June Mcduff and Ginny Mcduff. Please enter the arena." A voice went through the speaker. Phew! June was first for her test exam. "Good luck, June!" Angie whispered as she groomed Caspar in his stall as June was on Ginny, riding past. Thirty minuets' later, June came out with a happy expression. The snobby girls frowned deeply. "I got a B-! My first exam tests! Look, dressage combo; tick, timing beats; cross- that was a sucker and the rest are all crosses but at least I got a B!" said June, showing Angie and a few other people her results. Angie looked keenly. June had answered 9 questions right out of 22. It was pretty good. At least she has passed. I don't think I'll have a chance… thought Angie. Soon, Angie's name and Caspar's were called up. She didn't feel nervous because they snobs were snickering. It was because of: a) what if she doesn't past? Or b) What if I do badly? The two questions were in her stomach, swelling around as she saddled up. She entered the arena. A man and a woman were carrying clipboards and pens. Angie gulped. John, the man saw how nervous Angie was and gave her a sweet. Angie placed it in her pocket with a zipper. She got on Caspar. The man cleared his throat. "Before you start your single combo, please tell me; what is a name of a baby girl horse?" asked John. "Filly." Said Angie, PRAYING. Fiona nodded and asked her a few more questions. Later, she was starting her single combo's, dressage's and jumps. Angie was shaking when Fiona handed on her results. "Hey, don't be nervous or scared- you did pretty well!" she said with a warm smile. When she went back to the stable- she can't believe it- she got a Bt! Angie jumped up and down and showed June and everyone the results-it was excellent after all. She passed!
The End!
